The Kensington College of Business (KCB) is a partner with the University of Chester – one of the oldest British Institutions devoted to Higher Education in the UK. KCB combines the history of the University of Chester with an eight-storey building in Central London to deliver the BA Accounting & Finance Degree programme.

1 Career opportunities

There are two broad career paths for Accountancy graduates:

a) Working for a firm of accountants such as KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloittes or Price Waterhouse Coopers, or one of the many other respected accountancy firms.

b) Being employed as an accountant in many other types of commercial, charitable or government organisation such as Google, the NHS or Cancer Research where you can climb the career ladder.

2. This course will, in addition, provide a sound foundation for those who aspire to work in the highly challenging areas of: investment, insurance, banking, financial analysis and management.

3. Job security is high as firms always need accountants to manage their finances, even during economic downturns.

4 Own Business. You will gain the knowledge to start up your own Accountancy business, management and financial consultancy or small business advisory service.

5 Professional Recognition To practise as an accountant in the UK, it is essential to become a member of a professional accountancy body. This degree programme has been mapped against examinations of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA).

6 Further study Graduates from this degree can further their studies either by taking the exams of a professional association such as ACCA or a postgraduate business degree such as an MSc or MBA.

The Course is divided into 3 levels with 6 subjects or modules in each level as the table below explains:

The subjects are assessed by a combination of coursework and examinations with exams mostly used in the Accounting and IT subjects and coursework for the other subjects.

For each subject the pass mark is 40%.

If a student completes:

  • All 6 subjects from Level 4, you will be awarded with a University Certificate of Higher Education in Accounting and Finance. Cert.HE
  • All 12 subjects from Level 4 and Level 5, you will be awarded with the University Diploma of Higher Education in Accounting and Finance. Dip.HE 
  • completes all 18 subjects or Level 4, 5 and 6, they will be awarded a University Degree: a BA Hons in Accounting and Finance.

The Course has 2 different start dates throughout the year, which are September and January.
The year is divided into 2 terms of 13 weeks each, with 4 week holiday break between each term.
The Course is designed to make it possible to complete the whole degree in 3 years:

  • If the student studies for 2 terms in a 12 month period for each academic year OR has resit subjects in term 3.

Extra Information Please note that we accept a maximum of 8 UCAS points from GCE AS Levels and that the Welsh Baccalaureate (core) and A Level General Studies will be recognised in our offer. We will also consider a combination of A Levels and BTECs/OCRs.

Students from countries outside the UK are expected to have entry qualifications roughly equivalent to UK A Level for undergraduate study.

We accept a wide range of qualifications and consider all applications individually on merit. We may also take into account appropriate work experience.
